Muskegon High School
Ravenna High School
The Muskegon Big Reds Boys Soccer Team improved their record to 1-1 with a victory over Ravenna High School Thursday evening.
Muskegon opened the scoring early with a long distance shot from Brandon Nunez. Brandon received a pass from Bryan Mendoza, who pressed him to shoot from about 40 yards out, beating the keeper just below the crossbar.
Ravenna would answer 5 minutes later, tying the score at 1-1 with a upper corner shot that just beat Muskegon goal keeper Jesus Zambrano.
Muskegon took a 2-1 lead into halftime when Tyler Bennett was tripped inside the penalty box. Bryan Mendoza was able to convert the penalty shot.
Muskegon’s defense was able to lock down the game, and limited Ravenna’s shot opportunities. Amari Porter and Tyler Bennett were each able to find the back of the net in the 2nd half, leading Muskegon to a 4-1 final.
“We played a more dynamic game this evening” commented Muskegon Coach Jeff Holmes. “We had good ball movement, and held possession very well.” The Big Reds out shot Ravenna 12-2.
“We had a lot of guys making great runs a variety of positions, which helps keep the offense from becoming predictable. We will continue to put in work at each practice and make sure we’re seeing the movement and rewarding those players with opportunities.”
Muskegon will visit Oakridge High School on Monday evening.
