Muskegon High School
Jenison High School
The Muskegon Big Reds were roughed up in soccer action against Jenison H.S. on Tuesday evening. Muskegon found themselves down 5-0 at halftime, and lost 8-0 during the 2nd half.
“We played a decent first 20 minutes, relatively speaking” said Muskegon Coach Jeff Holmes. “We were playing all defense, and were never really able to establish any kind of possession to let us breathe.”
Jenison finally broke thru with a goal at the midpoint of the 1st half, and that was just the beginning of a rough 10 minute period. Jenison was able to follow up 5 minutes later with a flurry of 3 goals in 3 minutes. They added one more with minutes remaining to carry a 5 goal halftime lead.
“It was a shooting range for out keeper” continued Coach Holmes. “I actually had a comment from a sideline official about how many great saves our keeper, MIcah Crocker, made. Most of them from a very close range, he really kept us in it as long as he did.”
Muskegon came out in the 2nd half and managed to string together enough to get their one lone shot on goal from Beksultan Kalbekov. But that would only ramp the pressure from Jenison, who went on to score the final 3 goals in a 10 minute period and ended the game early, 8-0.
“A lot of our guys put in a lot of miles tonight, I’m proud of their effort. I shared some staggering stats with them post game, Jenison had scored 45 goals prior to our match, but only gave up 2 (all stats in OK Black play only), so they have pretty much dominated any of their opponents all season. We’ll shake this one off and prepare to host RP on Thursday evening.”
