Game Recap

The Muskegon Big Reds dropped their conference opener against Grand Rapids Union in soccer action Tuesday evening.
GR Union got off to a quick start when a low shot squirted loose from the Muskegon goal keeper, creating the game’s first opportunity. Union was able to tack on one additional goal and took a 2-0 lead into halftime.
The scoring came early and often in the second half, as GR continued to fire shot after shot at the Muskegon goal. GR Union would add another 4 goals in the second half, bringing the total to 6 overall.
“It was a very disappointing performance from our team”, commented Muskegon Coach Jeff Holmes. “We had a good week of practice, but there are some things that we just didn’t during those sessions that were definitely highlighted playing a team like Union. We really struggled to create, and our pace of play and aggressiveness from the start were really lacking. We’ll address the most critical areas at practice tomorrow, and regroup and plan for the next one.”
Muskegon falls to 1-3 overall, 0-1 in the OK Black conference standings. They will host cross town rival Mona Shores on Thursday evening.
